D-Day Bell - Launching June 6th
Limited Availability!
The D-Day Bell commemorates and honors the day when the allies began the liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation on June 6th, 1944, when the Americans, Canadians and British landed by sea and by air in Normandy, France; the beginning of the end of World War II. The bell is made from a U.S. 1944 Walking Liberty half dollar, a Canadian 1944 half dollar and a 1944 British half crown. All three coins contain real silver. The Cross with the Star of David is made of sterling silver. The “clapper” is made from the casing (head-stamp) of a 30-06 brass shell casing produced at a US ordnance plant during the war years. It is highly likely that ammunition produced during the early 1940s made its way to GI’s cartridge clips on D-Day and beyond. General Patton wrote, “In my opinion, the M-1 Rifle is the greatest implement ever devised.” The M-1 fired the 30-06 round. The looped hanger is made from removed cloth covered wiring from a P-51 Mustang, one of the most iconic aircraft of WWII. Mustangs flew in support of the D-Day landings but due to cloud cover saw very little action until later in the day when the clouds lifted and they returned for interdiction missions hunting enemy supply lines.
